Analysis of Food Security Status and Coping Strategies of Rural Households in Assam, India

The study was attempts to estimate the food security status and access coping strategies utilized during shortages among rural households of Assam. Data were collected in year 2016-17 from 120 farmers, who selected using a stratified random sampling method classified according their possession land. analyzed descriptive statistics, index tabular percentage analysis. revealed that Lower Brahmaputra Valley Zone, 30 % sample secure while 70 insecure. Moreover, 76.92 medium farmers 77.78 marginal insecure which indicates farm size could be significant factor farming households. Average daily calorie intake 2318.10, 2443.58, 2355.37 2600.37 kcal higher than national average for 1754.94, 1856.43, 1862.46 1845.11 much lower 2,200 by marginal, small, semi respectively. It household is dependent both district. also most important way obtaining when stocks run out purchase on credit market followed selling productive assets like land or livestock shortages. Other options reduce quantity, consume seed stock held next season, take money lenders etc. adopted shortage period. Therefore, there need increase volume production as well improvement income generating activities sustainable basis.
